Known by many names the gods of Ateria are actively involved in the daily lives of the people who worship them. Over the course of time each god has managed to exert his or her presence and ideals upon the world and shape much of it. Given free reign to do what they see fit they live by a loose set of rules and more often than not become involved in ways they shouldn’t when important matters are involved. Fickle and powerful they grant favor to their heroes and those who rally worshipers to their name.
An important distinction needs to be made concerning the gods of Ateria and the spheres of influence, as well as their names. Throughout the world many of the gods are known by different names, called one name in the north, and another in the south, the people worship and praise their deities thinking they are different when in fact they are one in the same. Jarrek, the god of death, is revered in the south as the protector of the dead and the gatekeeper to the afterlife, while in the north he is worshiped as the god of murder and assassins. Known by different names the people of each culture believe they worship different deities, when in fact they worship the same ones. This is an important fact that a player would be aware of but a character would not. As a result many of the deities listed below have large spheres of influence and in some cases many names. Travelers who venture to different regions may hear the names of many gods they don’t recognize when in truth there are only a small number of true deific beings who possess the ability to grant power to their worshippers. This holds true for monsters as well, though there has never been a organized effort to catalog or chronicle the gods they worship in all likelihood the beings they draw power from are most likely those listed below, yet no one is entirely certain of this.
The gods below are listed by the name they are known as in the Dragons Maw region. In truth no one really knows the true names of the gods but many of them use the names given to them by men when associating with one another.

The Chaos Gods
The three lost gods of Ateria are known as the chaos gods. Beings of immense power who once challenged the All-Father for control of the realm they are said to have been destroyed hundreds, if not thousands, of years ago. Yet in small circles of the world they are still worshiped by men and women with dark thoughts. Even more disturbing is that these men and women seem to have been granted powers, much like the clerics and priests of the other gods. Some primal being could be granting these worshipers their power or it could be that the chaos gods were never really destroyed, no one knows. Few people remember the names of these beings and yet they are known by many names in many places of the world. A common belief is that these three beings are either the first incarnation of the original gods or they are the culmination of several powerful entities that have somehow found a way to bind together. One theory is that the children are actually the second set of gods to have been created, the first having been driven insane by the constant chatter of thousands of worshippers in their heads.
