Born a legitimate child to loving parents, Jayco was raised in the modest wealth of his father Benjimin and his mother Rachel in Port Trilea, the unofficial capital of the Free Cities.
His father was a land owner of various warehouses and ran a workers union moving goods from the port up to the warehouses and then delivering them as needed into the city. Through various contracts and contacts the Aziri family has prospered for two generations now. Jayco was a strong lad and would often help some of his father’s workers making deliveries from the town to various businesses. He liked meeting people and would often lug great weights on his back or spend the afternoon moving large cargoes from wagons with the men. He would take lunch with them and hear all the latest town and tavern gossip. He dreamed of grander things however. Watching the heroes and mercenaries traveling through the Port he saw them spend their money on finery, drink, and women and wondered why that couldn’t be him? Surely a strong arm could raise a shield as easily as lift a heavy sack? What Jayco always lacked was motivation really. His eldest brother Roland was training in the administration aspect of the business and would likely become partner, then owner of the union at some point. Roland always pushed Jayco to do more and become more responsible and active in the family business. Jayco was further harassed by Lilianna, his older sister and second born. She called Jayco brutish, lazy, and stupid. Lilianna was sure to be married to a wealthy family and never let Jayco forget that her prospects were greater than his. Push came to shove literally one night when Jayco had a few cups of wine and took exception to being taunted by his sister; he shoved her to the ground roughly. Roland always hated Jayco’s hot temper and wrestled him to the ground and the two began to exchange blows. A dock knife materialized in Jayco’s hand and things would have gone from bad to worse if Benjimin hadn’t stepped in and settled the affair. Left with little reason to stay, Jayco asked for a bit of money to see him on his way from Port Trilea from his parents. Buying some armor, a shield, and a long sword along with some basic clothing, Jayco felt on top of the world and free to live life as he saw fit. He vowed never to return to Port Trilea until he had made a name for himself and became independently wealthy and seen some of the world. Growing up in Port Trilea among the priest of Dannis, Jayco has always felt he was under the yolk of authority. By nature Jayco is lazy, and unmotivated, but adventure and fame get him moving in the end. He has developed a love of gambling, but is still a youth and often taken advantage of. He admires young women and will strike up conversations when possible, his bright blonde locks and blue eyes and modest looks get a smile or two. He has heard of the warrior god and strongly desires to seek out a church in the hope of learning more about the religion. Ideally Jayco would love to be in a famous adventuring group, or a mercenary band of some sort. He revels in that which will give him fame and wealth, and even a noble title…anything he can win and lord over his siblings. Over the course of his travels Jayco will carefully mark the inside of his shield with a notch for each battle he survives. After ten such battles he will treat himself to some tattoo, finery, or weapon as a reward. Jayco will occasionally take trophies of his kills as reminders of particularly curious or stalwart foes. He will tell tall tales in bars and produce the trophies at the right times for dramatic effect. He loves to drink and gamble and chase available and even pretty women. He sleeps loudly, drinks deeply when he can, and works as little as possible. Wealth is to be spent, but he will keep a few silvers on hand as he fears going hungry.
